Origami Storybooks
Writing Origami Storybooks can be a very motivating activity for A1-A2 learners. After writing a first draft and getting feedback from the teacher, the students create simple origami books and copy their revised story into these little 8-page books. The format will lead to a nice product, and the students feel that it makes sense to revise their texts carefully and correct their mistakes. They add illustrations and thus produce a basic, but very satisfying product that they can be proud of.
I have even used these origami books to make the correction of tests more meaningful. In the test (Schularbeit) the students were asked to write a simple story. Since creativity and time are limited during a test, these stories are never great. In the next lesson, I returned the tess (+ stories) to the children and they had a whole lesson to revise the stories, add details and make them more interesting. They then created origami books (using A3 sheets) and illustrated their revised stories. That way, the usually boring work of revising and correcting made a lot more sense for the kids.
